Open Records and Open Door Policy

Open Records provides a mechanism for citizens to inspect or copy government records. It also provides for times in which governmental bodies may elect to, or are required by law to, withhold government records from the public. The City of Shawneetown supports a transparency within our local government. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us by email or phone.

The Public’s Right to Speak: The Illinois Open Meetings Act states that any person must be permitted an opportunity to address public officials under the rules Page 36 established and recorded by the public body. 5 ILCS 120/2.06(g).

All Shawneetown citizens and non-citizens are welcome to all City Council Meetings. You DO NOT need to be on the Agenda to be given the opportunity to speak during the Public Commentary portion of the meeting.
